inHabituation (Dennis Ritter)

vLast week I visited a gallery at Alfred University calledIMG_4279 inHabituation created by Dennis Ritter. The term inHabituation is the combination of two words inhabit and habituation. Inhabit meaning to live or occupy a place and habituation meaning the diminishing of an emotional response to a frequently repeated stimulus. These terms were combined to reference the unnoticed daily observations of places and the objects that dwell within them. The gallery was filled with many domestic ceramic sculptures that give a home like feeling but that feeling is subjective. The feeling that the grouping of these everyday objects gives varies to who is observing them
